West Midtown or the Upper Westside? How Transit Splits Atlanta’s 20 Westside Apartment Buildings

West Midtown and the Upper Westside are grouped together in this directory, but a renter will notice a clear line between them. The 20 buildings here hold 6,437 apartments, and half were completed in 2020 or later. Twelve list a nearby MARTA station. The other eight, mostly farther north along Howell Mill Road, Collier Road, Bolton Drive and Marietta Boulevard, list none. That difference matters more than any amenity if you plan to live without a car.

Short answer: Of the 20 Westside buildings, 8 list Bankhead station as nearest, 3 list Arts Center and 1 lists Midtown, together holding 3,641 apartments. The other 8 buildings, with 2,796 apartments, list no nearby station. Ten of the 20 opened in 2020 or later. See them all on the West Midtown / Upper Westside page.

The buildings closest to MARTA

Most of the station-adjacent buildings are in West Midtown proper, along Marietta Street, Huff Road, Bishop Street and the Star Metals area near 11th Street. Bankhead is the western end of MARTA’s Green Line, so residents who use it typically ride east toward downtown and transfer at Five Points for other lines.

How to choose between them

  • If you commute by MARTA, start with the Bankhead and Arts Center buildings, then walk the route from the building to the station yourself before signing. A listed station is the nearest one, not a promise of a short walk.
  • If you drive, the Upper Westside buildings put you closer to I-75 and the Northside, and parking is usually part of the plan. Ask whether a garage space is included or billed separately.
  • If you want a newer building, both halves have plenty: 10 of the 20 opened in 2020 or later.
  • If you want a high floor, only Stella at Star Metals (20) and Westside Union (10) reach double digits; most buildings here are three to seven floors.

Practical tips

  • Ask about move-in concessions at buildings that opened in 2024 or 2025, since newer properties may still be leasing up.
  • Ask about train and industrial noise. Parts of the Westside border active rail lines and former industrial sites, so tour at different times of day.
  • Confirm pet and laundry details with each building directly before applying.
